Kid Friendly Stops for Houston Restaurant Weeks 2018

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Well, for Houston foodies it is! This year, Houston Restaurant Weeks runs from August 1st – September 3rd. What started as just one week is now a full month where dozens of restaurants in our area offer special menus at set prices with proceeds going to the Houston Food Bank. While this is a great opportunity to enjoy a date night, it’s also a fun time to treat the whole family. We looked through the entire list of restaurants for 2018 to bring you our top picks for kid-friendly options during Houston Restaurant Weeks…

10 Kid-Friendly Stops fro Houston Restaurant Weeks | Houston Moms Blog

1} Goode Company and Cantina

New for 2018, Goode Company and Cantina is part of the popular Houston restaurant group that is very family friendly. For Restaurant Weeks, choices include tacos, enchiladas, carnitas and signature campechana. We highly recommend starting out with the Queso or guacamole! Locations are in the Memorial area and in The Woodlands. Yes, they have coloring and activity sheets for the kids, which is always a bonus.

2} Poitin

Also new in 2018, we love the location of Poitin in the bustling Sawyer Yards area of town. The HRW menus include choices the kids will love like homemade seasonal pop tarts, blueberry pancakes and their “bad ass” biscuit trio. Other menu choices will include pulled pork Benedict, fried chicken sandwich, bacon, grits, eggs and hash browns.

3} The Grove

We picked The Grove as one of our top family-friendly restaurants mostly because of the location. Nestled right inside Discovery Green, The Grove is a great place to relax after running around in Houston’s biggest green space. {Yes – get the kids nice and tired so they will sit still for dinner!} Along with a playground and splash pad to enjoy, Discovery Green has movie nights, dance workshops, concerts, and other fun events throughout the summer too.

4} Prego

Located right in the heart of Rice Village, Prego is an upscale Italian restaurant with great food. They provide crayons and coloring sheets for the kids and have a kid menu featuring delicious pizza and pasta. Pop over to The Chocolate Bar nearby after dinner to enjoy a tasty treat with the family.

5} Downtown Aquarium

What? Is that Dory? Nemo!? I don’t know about you, but my kids loved the movie Finding Dory, and the idea of seeing the real life version sounds awesome! At the Downtown Aquarium you can see giant tanks of fish and other sea-life. Of course, you can also enjoy the giant ferris wheel that gives you a view of downtown and beyond. While parents can dine on the 3-course restaurant weeks meal, kids can choose from pizza, pasta, chicken tenders, burgers, and yes, fish and shrimp!

6} The Union Kitchen

The atmosphere at Union Kitchen is upscale, but comfortable for families. My kids love this place! The kid’s menu is out of this world and includes favorites like chicken tenders and mac ‘n’ cheese, and also specialty items like mini cheese burgers, linguine with oven roasted meatballs, and sliced grilled tenderloin medallions served with vegetables. Your kids will eat like kings! {This year all four locations are part of RW!}

7} The Melting Pot

The Melting Pot is the original fondue restaurant in our area! The kids will love the way you use little skewers to dip your food in an assortment of cheeses, chocolates, and various other dips. The Restaurant Weeks menu features loaded baked potato cheddar cheese dip, filet mignon, shrimp, and Mexican Chocolate!

8} Tobiuo Sushi

This new addition to Houston Restaurant Weeks is a great family dinner spot in the Katy area. Coconut shrimp tempura and the signature flying tobiuo roll are both items we think the kids could enjoy. Other menu options include chicken with cauliflower puree, miso-glazed salmon or 44 Farms ribeye. For dessert, check out lychee ice cream, shaved ice with fruit or compressed watermelon with raspberry and toasted pistachio.

9} Beaver’s Houston

Beaver’s Houston is a cool hang out with plenty of outdoor seating, so it’s great for families. On the HRW menu, they have options like mac and cheese, fried fish and smoked wings. Beaver’s has a “For the Kits” menu {Kits are baby beavers} so there are other options. For something sweet, everyone loves the “Beaver Balls” – a fried brownie with white chocolate and peanut butter.

10} Goode Company Armadillo Palace

This Houston classic is the home for good ole fashioned comfort food. The kids will LOVE the huge armadillo that will greet you right out front. Come on, take a selfie already!  There is often live music and plenty of room to meet up with friends. The Restaurant Weeks menu has Brazos Bend Pecan Pie… get there already! Yum!!

During Houston Restaurant Weeks, there are different prices depending on the type of restaurant you visit. For example, at one restaurant you will pay $35 for a three-course-dinner. The restaurant will donate $5 to the Houston Food Bank for each dinner sold — which allows them to provide 15 meals from just this one donation. Wow! And yes, take the kids! These kid-friendly options will allow you to help out those in our community and enjoy some quality time with your family too.
