5 Family-Friendly Bars in Oak Forest and The Heights

As a family, we are always looking for fun activities to do together over the weekend. Additionally, the idea of the more the merrier becomes appealing over the weekend. Rather than make reservations or worry about enough space for the kids to run around and be crazy, it is so much easier just to have some fun spaces to choose from. On that note, here are 5 family-friendly bars in Northwest Houston (Oakforest/Heights).

Wakefield CrowBar

On the weekends, Wakefield CrowBar opens at 10 am. They have a wide selection of food and alcohol. They have a brunch menu on the weekends and a daily happy hour during the weekdays. They have a closed-off play area for the children and even have volleyball courts and cornhole lanes. The space itself is large and the outdoor space is ample. You can choose to book the space for events as well.

Walking Stick Brewing

Walking Stick Brewing is another great spot with delicious beer and lots of outdoor space for your kids to run free. They even have a merry-go-round! Their food menu is more limited and they only offer their bagel sandwiches in-house, but they have a rotating lineup of food trucks that come through. On the weekends they open at 9 am and on the weekdays they open at 11 am. They are very family-friendly and the space has a phenomenal atmosphere. They also have an option to rent out event space.

Heights Bier Garten

The Heights Bier Garten is in the heart of Old Heights and Greater Heights. It lies right off Shepherd between 14th and 15th St. They have over 94 beers on tap and offer a great selection of pub eats. They also have a wonderful selection of cocktails and wine. Their outdoor space is charming and full of large seating areas. They have plenty of swings for the kids to entertain themselves on. They are also pet friendly. There has not been a time when I have gone here and the atmosphere has not been full of laughter and fun. They open at 11 am on the weekends.

Preslees

This bar has a huge outdoor space and lots of hammock swings for the kids to play around in. Their menu is inclined towards southern dining and their alcohol selection is typical of any regular bar you would go to. It is extremely laid back and casual, their indoor space is slightly more constricted, so I would say avoid it on hotter days though they do have fans to help alleviate the heat a little. They open at 11 am on the weekends.

Cedar Creek

This charming bar is nestled in the heart of the greater heights area. It is located right inside the neighborhood. All of 20th St has many bar options and you can move from spot to spot. Cedar Creek has a big food menu and alcohol selection. They also have the creek run right through the bar so it makes for a perfect family outing. They have the option to play cornhole and have some games inside the bar as well. They open at 9 am on the weekends.
