Fun Fact:: Round Top, TX, about 100 miles from Houston, was originally named Townsend, after Nathaniel Townsend, an early settler whose house still remains as the Texana Lodge.
But it was renamed Round Top because the postmaster of the town lived in a house with a round tower!

Round Top, Texas. Have you been before? If not, you need to put it on your Texas travel list STAT. It’s less than two hours by car from Houston and is the perfect spot for a quick weekend getaway. I went recently with a group of girlfriends and we had the most wonderful time! Here’s what we did and loved.
Where to Stay::
There are several cute B&B type places where you can stay in Round Top. After looking around at a few spots, we ended up booking the Boho cottage at The Vintage Round Top based on the beautiful pictures on their website. Boho did not disappoint! It was absolutely GORGEOUS and very clean and spacious. Paige and Smoot, the owners, were helpful and accommodating; they even helped us coordinate a surprise champagne toast welcome for our guest of honor. I have nothing but good things to say about staying here. If The Vintage is booked, then I have also heard that the Frenchie Round Top is another great option for lodging.
What to Eat::
Round Top has no shortage of delicious eating establishments. During our short trip, I dined at Lulu’s, The Garden Co.- Feed & Firewater, and Round Top Smokehouse. I tried a ton of things from Lulu’s and highly recommend any of their pasta dishes (the bucatini and carbonara were especially yummy). Their crusty cheese bread is also wonderful and you can’t beat that date night ambiance inside (think romantic candlelight and cozy tables). Another great meal I had out in Round Top came from Round Top Smokehouse. Get there early because once they sell out, it’s gone. I was tempted to try their famous baby back ribs but I went with the half smoked chicken instead. It is only available on weekends and is out-of-this-world incredible… it was so good that I would drive back there just to eat it again! The chicken is served with freshly made tortillas- heaven!! We also enjoyed a delicious catered breakfast that weekend from Local Roots (they bake all their bread from scratch) that was lovely. Additionally, I’ve also heard wonderful things about Blue Willow Café (in nearby Burton, Texas), Ellis Motel, and Prost on Block 29 (a super cute wine bar). But we ran out of time to try everything, which means I’ll just have to go back again soon!
What to Do::
There’s so much shopping to be had in Round Top! We especially loved popping into all the cute shops in Henkel Square Market (my favorite was Wimberley). Junk Gypsy is located just a tiny bit further down the road, and we swung by briefly to browse and snap a few pics in front of this HGTV-famous storefront. Truly, there is no shortage of clothing/antique/jewelry/boutique shopping in Round Top! Want to learn more? Here is a longer and more comprehensive guide of shopping destinations.
All that browsing sure can make a gal thirsty. After an “exhausting” morning of shopping, you will want to head over to one of the many local wineries to take a load off. After poring over all the options offered up in this extremely helpful Round Top winery/distillery guide, we ended up over at Rohan Meadery for the better part of the afternoon. I was very impressed by their meads (made with honey from Blissful Folly Farm) and was especially charmed by the cranberry flavored one. They also have live music on the weekends and a pizza food truck!
