5 Ways Moms Can Balance Work and Family

5 Ways Moms Can Balance Work and Family | Houston Moms Blog

It’s not easy trying to juggle the demands of family life and a career. Achieving the perfect work-life balance is a lifelong lesson we would all like to master. People often ask me how to restore harmony to a demanding lifestyle. I tell them to imagine a scale, with their career on one side and their family life on the other. Once that scale tips to one side, it immediately becomes out of balance with the other side. This imbalance often causes stress, placing their health at risk. Chronic stress can contribute to a variety of diseases, such as anxiety, depression, or obesity. Learning to carve out personal time for yourself is a great start to balancing how you make your living with the way you live.

Here are some more tips on successfully balancing work and family demands…

Be Good to Yourself

With your long list of “to-do” items, it’s important to remember to take care of yourself! Find what you enjoy doing and then protect the time you need to do it. Eating a healthy diet, drinking plenty of water and getting enough exercise are a great start! Feeling balanced will also help you overcome the inevitable challenges that come your way.

Create More Space

Technology allows us to connect to anyone at anytime and anywhere, which makes it extremely challenging to establish boundaries between work and home. Make a conscious decision to create more space by clearly separating work time from personal time. Setting boundaries will help you better cope with daily life stressors.

Rest Up

Getting enough sleep is essential to facing daily challenges. Try to avoid using electronic devices such as tablets, phones and computers before bedtime. Instead, use your time to do something genuinely relaxing like reading a book or indulging in a bubble bath. Your body and immune system will thank you.

Find Your “Yes”

In today’s fast-paced world, we are pulled in every direction, whether it’s a co-worker asking us to spearhead a project or our child’s teacher requesting we organize a class party. Remember to prioritize what’s important to you. Say “yes” to what you really want and what you believe is truly worth your time.

Work Together

Enlist the help of trusted friends and loved ones to pitch in with child care or household responsibilities when you need to work overtime or travel. Join forces with those you can depend on when family situations arise. Finding support makes all the difference making sure your life is in balance.
