Ties that Tether by Jane Igharo

Ties that TetherJane Igharo’s Ties that Tether is able to make a romance novel without being too mushy. Nigerian-American, Azere has been told all her life that she must marry a Nigerian. But when she falls in love with a Latino Azere buckles at the knee and struggles to tell her mom about her true love.

A Court of Thrones and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

A Court of Thorns and RosesMystical? Check  Love story? Check  Book that keeps you on the edge of your seat like Hunger Games? Check plus! The main character in the story kills a wolf and to save her family from retaliation she is forced to live with fairies—that are scary and beautiful. She falls in love with… well I’ll let you read to find out the rest!

Call Us What We Carry by Amanda Gorman

Call Us What We Carry This book is a poetic narrative about life circa 2020/2021. She uses metaphors and allusions to give words to the pains, questions and trauma we all witnessed {and been a part of} for the past few years. You will not regret reading this book.

Divine Disruption by the Evans, Hurst, Shirer families

Divine DisruptionThis next book is more faith based, but still a great read. As I have personally experienced, questions about faith are common during grief. Texas pastor Tony Evans and his family gather around address tough questions about faith and loss that help you realign your faith with reality.

Suffer Strong by Katherine and Jay Wolf

Suffer StrongThe authors describe how they redefined the perfect life after continuously praying for a miraculous healing. Katherine went from planning her life with no boundaries, to trying to enjoy her life with a literal and metaphoric wheelchair. She is abounding in joy even through her tragedy and she encourages you to do the same.

Bonus Tip

Try using a book journal to help you reach your reading goals. My favorite journal is The Book Lover’s Journal and is available on Amazon

Book Lover's JournalYou can also try Reading Log by Smart Bookx. This journal gives you a space for genre, start/end date and your review of the book. Both journals will make an awesome sentimental gift for your kiddos at the end of the year!
