Bump Diaries :: Month 4

Bump Diaries

Welcome to Bump Diaries – a pregnancy series on Houston Moms Blog! Becky is expecting, and here she will share her journey – the good AND the ugly – with all of you.  It is sort of like an homage to the original mommy blog where we provide a little peek into the life of a {pregnant} mom.

This was easily the most uneventful of all the months thus far, and I believe of all the months to come.

Most eventful issue… That I look and feel pregnant but still don’t feel justified showing yet. I’m 5 foot 3 inches and this is my third kid. Which means I’ve basically been showing since I got those first 2 lines on that take home test.

Anyone else dealt with this before?

With my first, I couldn’t wait to show. I would actually push out my stomach to look more pregnant than I was. {Slightly ridiculous, I know.}

With my second, my body just wasn’t the same. I wasn’t even a stick of a figure before my first, but…how do you say this in a P.C. way…there wasn’t a blob of pizza dough like substance that hung off the front of me either. That’s probably T.M.I., but oh well, you’re a mom – you get this.

So you can only imagine that with my third, this has been an issue. I fully embrace the maternity pants as soon as I found out I was pregnant. Hello, I wanted to enjoy my holidays, so bring on that stretchy waistband! {We can pretend I’m kidding…or at least half kidding.}

In all seriousness though, I’m making this issue the main topic of this post because I know I’m not alone, and I just think maybe one other mama needs to hear it. I want to feel like I have that pregnancy glow, but right now I’m in the awkward phase of wearing flowly things that stick more than flow. Getting ready in the mornings are so hard because we are telling people we are pregnant but I “shouldn’t” be showing this much since I’m only 13-16 weeks along.

It’s so vain, and I hate that — but I promised I would share the good and the bad with you over this pregnancy.

Sadly, during this time is when we also had our family pictures scheduled. Yep, during the most awkward time of pregnancy I had to take a picture that we would see forever. I could’ve cried over it. Let’s be honest, I did. Like every other mom I had each person in my family’s outfits picked out for weeks. They would look precious, but I couldn’t find one thing for myself that didn’t show. So literally at 8pm the night before our pictures I had a “get over yourself Becky” moment. I looked at my 14-week reflection in the mirror and embraced it. And I headed to the mall and picked out an embrace-the-bump-outfit for family pictures.

embrace the bump

Big thanks to Momma’s Gonna SNAP for making me feel so beautiful! I so treasure this capture of my hubs, my three kiddos, and myself.

After that moment, I’ve embraced it for what it is — my baby growing inside of me. I know in my head that we all have different bodies, we all carrying babies differently, how you carry doesn’t mean you are healthy or unhealthy, it just is what it is.

Other symptoms ::

  • {Best of all!!!} I felt first kicks! {The perk of third pregnancy—you can decipher gas from kicks easily!}
  • The nausea is picking up. {How is this possible?}
  • Exhaustion has evened out. {Third pregnancy just doesn’t provide that energy boost that all the websites describe.}
  • Cravings – salads, wings, and Mexican food. {I like to pretend the nausea and salad cancels the other two cravings out.}
  • Insane thirst. {I’m chugging iced cold water all day long.}
  • Lots of potty breaks. {Thanks to the previous!}
  • Lack of drive…if you’ve been pregnant, you know what I mean.

Becky grew up in Houston, leaving only for college and an internship, but the humidity called her back! And it's a good thing - because shortly after moving home, she met her husband Chris, St. Louis Cardinals fanatic and {wife proclaimed} genius. She stays home with their two (soon-to-be three) girls: Karis, a girly girl and tenacious toddler, and Moriah, smiliest baby alive & Texas Women’s Hospital 10,000th baby in 2012. When she's not in the middle of a tea party, play dates, or potty training, she writes devotions with Sacred Holidays, teaches at prisons and women's ministry events and is a certified MBTI Life Coach {with Orbiting Normal}. She loves hot Houston summers, coffee creamer, dance parties with her family, nail polish, iced tea, reading {although it’s a lot of picture books these days}, and their church family {Bayou City Fellowship}! She would love to connect with you on her personal blog {www.beckykiser.com} or through Twitter {@beckykiser}, Pinterest {@beckyjkiser}, and Facebook.
