Don’t Overdo it: Keeping Your Caffeine in Check

Houston Moms is proud to partner with Next Level Urgent Care, sharing some much-needed health tips with our community.

Raise your hand if you are surviving the busy days, long work hours and hectic family schedules by the grace of caffeine!

Cup after cup of coffee. Our daily visit to our favorite drive-thru to grab a coke. An energy drink to give us a quick jolt.

We get it!

Our friends at Next Level Urgent Care know you feel like you need a consistent dose of caffeine to continuously handle being an incredible mom. Sure, you need your energy, but how much is too much?

Studies have shown that 400mg of caffeine, about 4 regular cups of coffee, is the best way to maintain a healthy lifestyle, not overloading on it, and getting the fuel you need for a jam-packed day. Caffeine, while serving its incredible purpose, can cause serious issues when you overdo it.

Next Level Urgent Care reminds us that too much caffeine can cause issues with your sleep, digestive troubles, headaches, and an elevated heart rate, along with other problems that can really keep you from tackling your daily to-do lists.

Everybody is different. Some people can consume more than the recommended 400mg of caffeine a day without any negative effects. But that’s certainly not everyone.

Finding your personal limits and what works best for you is key. If you feel any discomfort after a day of heavy caffeine intake, consider drinking a little less. Tailor your intake to your personal needs!

  • Kombucha (approximately 15mg per cup)
  • Green Tea (30-50mg per cup)
  • Matcha (approximately 70mg per cup)
  • Guarana (up to 125mg per cup)
  • Caffeine Supplements (approximately 200mg)

Whether it’s a few cups of coffee, a couple of glasses of iced tea, or a can of your favorite soda, feel secure in getting the boost you’re looking for, but as a rule of thumb, keep the 400mg suggestion in mind!
