Caring Through the Chaos

This post is generously sponsored by our partners at UTMB Health - our preferred provider for the Bay Area, Clear Lake, and Southeast Texas.

Twelve months ago, things like masks, social distancing and Zoom calls were far from the norm.

Twelve months ago, visitors were welcomed into hospitals, meetings could be held in person and it was safe for kiddos to share things like toys and books.

Twelve months ago record-breaking snow and ice events weren’t something we were expecting.

Twelve months ago, life looked a lot different.

It certainly did for me.

Caring Through the Chaos
This time last year, I was busy and excited as I, along with so many other esteemed health care providers worked to open a new Pediatric Inpatient Unit within UTMB Health’s Clear Lake Hospital.

A unique collaboration launched by the University of Texas Medical Branch and Children’s Memorial Hermann, the 15-bed, 8th floor unit was opened on Feb. 19, 2020, with the main intent of broadening access to high-quality, specialized care for children and families in the Southeast region.

And I’m happy to say that since that day, our team here has done just that. Sure, we’ve had visitor policy changes, PPE policy changes, and countless other protocol changes along the way. But each one of those was a measure we took to keep our patients and their families safe and ensured we were able to continue providing them with the leading-edge care they need and deserve.

Caring Through the Chaos
The year may have looked a LOT different than what we initially envisioned, but the intention behind our work remained the same. We did what we needed to do for the more than 635 patients and families who walked through our doors during the last 12 months.
And we will continue to do that each and every day.

Of course, we hope your kiddos never need to see us and our team of pediatric subspecialists, but if they do, know that we’ll be here, caring through the chaos, keeping our commitment to the communities we serve—pandemic or not.
