A Skincare Routine: Where to Start?
Once upon a time, my counter used to be ridiculously cluttered with makeup products. These days, however, I am much more inclined to try a new facial serum over a pretty shade of lipstick. After making the terrifying discovery of WRINKLES ALL OVER MY FACE, I immediately reached out to a few skincare savvy friends for all their tips. A couple of girlfriends linked me to a Korean skincare website called Soko Glam right away. If you want to build a new skincare routine but don’t know where to start {this was totally me}, Soko Glam makes it easy for you with these pre-curated 5 or 10 step skincare sets. I love to try new products and don’t always re-order my empties from here, but two must-have products I restock often off Sokoglam are the Hanskin hyaluron skin essence and the Resveratrol-containing Neogen Bio-Peel pads. The hydrating essence plumps and softens skin, and the peel pads smell like fruity red wine. Enough said.
The How-To
The key to achieving and maintaining radiant, glowy skin is…. sunblock! Everyday sunblock application helps prevent aging and skin damage, and the best sunscreen to use is one that you’ll apply consistently. I have a trio of sunscreens that I love and rotate on the regular: my Shiseido sunscreen stick is perfect for on-the-go application and can be used over or under makeup; this Bioré Watery Essence was highly recommended by a friend and absorbs like a lightweight moisturizer; and, finally, the Supergoop! brand is a cult favorite for a reason, y’all- I am a big fan of their unseen sunscreen and PLAY antioxidant body mist.
Keep It Clean!
Another healthy skincare habit that I’ve picked up in the last few years is double cleansing my face. Before heading to bed, I always take the time to wash my face twice using both an oil-based cleanser and a water-based cleanser. My holy grail product for oil-based cleansing is Green Clean, by Farmacy Beauty. Not only does it remove all traces of makeup without stripping your skin, it also smells like a tropical beach vacay! My current favorite water-based cleanser is an affordable drugstore find: CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser. Don’t forget to moisturize after all that cleansing. My forever go-to is Farmacy Beauty’s Honey Halo, which has really been a skin-changer for me.
Mama, Treat Yourself
Incorporating weekly facial masks into your skincare routine is the easiest way to shake things up. Whenever I go to Katy Asian Town, I pop into the TONYMOLY store next to H Mart to pick up a brand new stash of face masks. I also recently discovered facial tools and am sad that I spent so many years of my life without them! Enjoying a glass of vino while rolling my Mount Lai de-puffing jade roller over an ice-cold facial mask is my current idea of heaven! Side note:: I am also lowkey obsessed with their eye massage tool. I store it in my skincare fridge and use it for a relaxing brow bone massage nearly every day!
