Creative Blinds Comes to the Rescue When Window Hacks Fail

Like many parents in the last year, I’ve had to rearrange things in my home to fit in a virtual learning space for my kids. With three children doing school online, I decided to order headphones for everyone and put desks in the playroom. It was working out just fine but one morning I realized the room was much darker than usual. I looked around. Why weren’t the blinds at the far window open? I walked over to the window only to discover that the blinds no longer functioned properly.

Creative Blinds Comes to the Rescue When Window Hacks FailThe blinds, cordless ones that you can operate by simply pulling or pushing on the bottom slat, were now stuck in the down position. I can only guess that after many years of rough handling by little hands, they decided to peter out. I’m still glad we replaced all the old corded blinds when we first moved into this house, not only because these were an upgrade and easier to use, but also because we were child-proofing our home for a growing family.

According to a study published in Pediatrics, more than 16,000 children in the US were treated in emergency departments due to injuries caused by window blinds. Children can get tangled up in the cords and the results can be deadly. It’s important that parents inspect their homes and consider swapping out all their old corded window blinds with safer options to reduce the risk of a serious accident.

When I realized the playroom blinds were broken, my husband forced them up and tied it in place with fishing line to allow light into the room. Well, that just means it’s now stuck in the up position! This was not going to work as a long-term solution. So, I turned to Creative Blinds, who just opened a new showroom near me.

Creative Blinds has a 45-year history as a local, family-owned business. They have consistently been recognized as Houston’s #1 trusted source for window coverings with competitive prices. I wasn’t ready to hire a fancy designer to re-do my windows, but I also felt like I couldn’t go the DIY route for something this important. Creative Blinds is the perfect option because they can take me from vision, to design, to execution. With them, I can do just one window, or the entire house.

While exploring their website, I was pleasantly surprised to find that there is a myriad of window treatment possibilities. In fact, so many updated selections exist for window coverings and window blinds that I felt a little overwhelmed. Thankfully, they offer a free design consultation service!

The website allows you to book a consultation online, or you can call them directly. They offer virtual design consultations as well as in-home visits. You can also visit one of their showrooms to look through options as well. Their brand-new space in the West University area allows clients to go in and see their products in person. I opted to have someone come to my backyard for a masked meeting.

My expert designer showed up with lots of photos of new window treatments that would work for the playroom, as well as some options for other windows in my home I was hoping to upgrade. We then walked through the house and talked through how my family uses each of the selected rooms. Do I need blackout options here? Would it be useful to have a motorized shade at this hard-to-reach window? Is both natural light and privacy valued in this space? Do the kids need the ability to lean on this windowsill to wait for Daddy to come home? I found it so useful to think through all the questions posed by the designer. This way, I can come to a decision that marries style and function flawlessly.

Not only was I impressed by the various options that are now available to solve all my window covering issues, but I also learned that Creative Blinds is the Hunter Douglas Authorized Service Center for Houston. This means that if something goes wrong, they’ll take care of it. They offer a one-year in-home service policy in addition to all the standard warranties.

The designer took measurements of my windows to create a personalized Window Vision and a client proposal. A few days later, I received my Window Vision with photos of window treatment options for each room, and a detailed proposal that included current promotional discounts. Next, I can either visit the showroom, or I can ask my designer to come by with drapery fabrics to finalize my selections.

After the order is confirmed and a deposit made, an installer will come out to do the technical measurements for the perfect fit. This same installer will come out and install the window coverings once they leave production. I really value the continuity of service I get from Creative Blinds knowing that one person will see the job through from beginning to end.

My kids are back in person at school now and I hope I can permanently dismantle my “virtual classroom” soon, but what I’m really looking forward to is finally having some upgraded and functioning window coverings in that room again! I’m really glad that Creative Blind’s expert designers helped me find the best window treatment solutions for my needs.
