The Woodlands is a master planned community 28 miles north of Houston up i45, with several corporate campuses, like Chevron Phillips, Anadarko, Woodforest National Bank, Baker Hughes, Exxon Mobile, Halliburton, and many others. Because of the convenience and commute, families are flocking to The Woodlands in droves.

The Woodlands has many great neighborhoods to consider, Woodforest {in the Montgomery area} , Cochran’s Crossing, Indian Springs, Alden Bridge, Fairway Oak, and many more! Neighborhoods.com is a great place to start to find out more about these neighborhoods and to find a house.

Moms love The Woodlands for many reasons, most notably is the awesome array of family-friendly events.  The Woodlands has no shortage of events, business, and restaurants that all ages of kids and adults will love. 


Local Family Favorites :: {Playgrounds, sports, activities, parks}

At HMB, we love family-friendly activities. If it’s hot outside {because, it’s HOUSTON}, we recommend these indoor play places and these awesome splash padsWe also love taking care of ourselves. We have compiled a list of mommy-favorite fitness classes around town that can help you with self care.

  • The Woodland’s Children Museum has interactive permanent and temporary exhibits that are designed to spark imaginative play in all ages. They toddler area and big kid areas are amazing for all kiddos. 
  • North Shore Park is an absolute gem in The Woodlands! It’s on the lake, so bring bread to feed the ducks. They have playground equipment for older and younger kids, and lots of green space for family activities. Check their website for special events like family-friendly concerts! This park has made our list of the BEST Parks in Houston!
  • Little Gym The Woodlands is a kid’s gym that offers dance, gymnastics, sports, and karate classes, as well as parent/child classes. 
  • Pump It Up The Woodlands is an indoor inflatable entertainment center that is perfect for parties and free play! Bring socks! 
  • Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion hosts dozens of children’s only events, as well as concerts and festivals. Check out their calendar to find all of their fun events. 
  • iFly The Woodlands is an indoor skydiving adventure that is a fun, family date for age 8 and up. 
  • Houston Public Libraries boast quite a few family friendly activities. Find your closest location here. Your kids will love the library and all of its FREE fun things to do. A few of us may even want to move into it! A lot of neighborhoods even boast Free Little Libraries that can help your kid keep their love of reading alive.  

Childcare and Schools

We know finding great child care and schools is a daunting task.  There are hundreds of great day care options in this area, but finding the right one for your family takes work. The Woodlands is served by Conroe ISD and has a great reputation for strong public schools. There are also a few private schools in The Woodlands that are notable:: John Cooper School, The Woodlands Preparatory School, The Woodlands Christian Academy, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School (K-8), and Frassati Catholic high School. There are also many charter schools across Houston, like YES Prep and Harmony Schools. Lone Star College and Sam Houston State Universtiy are also in the area.


Perfect Date Night/Staycation

Mommy breaks like date nights, an occasional brunch, and staycations are an important part of self care.
