Family Friendly Halloween Movie and Snack Combos

Family Friendly Halloween Movie and Snack CombosIt has been a crazy year, to say the least, but I am determined to make the very best of the spooky season with my kids. After all, it’s our favorite time of year! We are all about Halloween, cooler weather, pumpkin everything, and all the mini candies you can possibly stomach. Close your eyes for a minute and imagine slicing open that pumpkin top and opening it up to be hit with the aroma of fresh pumpkin. Imagine the squeals of your children as they scoop the pumpkin goo up and let it squish between their little fingers. Sigh. There is nothing quite like it. {Please tell me we aren’t the only ones who enjoy the mess!}

We aren’t quite sure if we are going to be going door-to-door this year, but we have one Halloween tradition that will go off without a hitch, or a mask! Every year, we plan at least one day to snuggle up in our living room with all the spooky treats and binge on family Halloween movies. My kids are not quite into scary yet, so we stick to friendly flicks and treats.

Check out some of our favorite movie and snack combos::

  • Hocus Pocus – I’ll admit, this one is more for me than my children. Every year they agree to watch it and every year I am transported back to my early elementary years, giddy for Halloween and the Sanderson Sisters. For snacks, we love to make these super simple and delicious Witches Broomsticks from Mom Foodie and these Ooey Gooey Witches Brewy Hocus Pocus cookies from The Soccer Mom blog.

  • The Addams Family – We tend to stick to the 1991 rendition of the Addams Family, but we have been known to make a longer day of it and watch Addams Family Values as well. We also love a good CG movie, so the 2019 animated version is a great choice, too. For snacks, trust me when I say there is no better way to “wake the dead” than with these Graveyard Pudding Cups from My Name is Snickerdoodle. And we can’t watch the Addams Family without paying homage to one of our favorite characters, Thing. Check out these fun and easy popcorn hands from Yummy Healthy Easy!

  • Casper – Maybe we just love Christina Ricci in our spooky movies, but Casper has become one of our all-time faves, and we pair it with another one of our faves:: a super simple, healthy Boonana Ghost Pop from Mom’s Kitchen Handbook. For a savory spin and a little bit of creative fun, check out these Ghost Snack Cups from the Decorated Cookie and fill with your favorite snack mix!

  • Hotel Transylvania – Take your pick of 1, 2, or 3, we love them all! If we’re being honest, Hotel Transylvania makes it into our regular rotation, but something about watching it in season with a themed treat makes it all the more fun! These Vampire Donuts from Devour Dinner are just the thing to keep the fun and laughs going all night! For added fun, buy some extra icing tubes and let the kids decorate the donuts themselves! For dinner, try these crescent mummy pizzas from Pillsbury. They are a delightful spin on an old favorite, and the kids have a blast putting them together!

  • The Nightmare Before Christmas – You didn’t think I would forget this classic Halloween movie, did you? Absolutely not! But I feel compelled to say that I know some of you out there will argue that this is a Christmas movie. I am not against you. In fact, I agree. This is the best of both worlds. The Brangelina of seasonal films… Hallowmas? Christoween? Whatever you want to call it, we are here for it and we usually reserve this one for late on Halloween night as we transition from one season to another {sorry Thanksgiving}. And for our pumpkin king, we make these scrumptious, fluffy, pumpkin cookies from Will Cook for Smiles.They are tasty and so much fun. The kids love to decorate their own scenes from the movie or just eat them plain!
