The wait is over! One of the most anticipated Houston annual foodie events is here. Houston Restaurant Weeks spans from August 1 through September 3rd and is the largest fundraiser benefiting the Houston Food Bank. Since its start in 2003, founded by volunteer Cleverly Stone, Houston Restaurant Weeks have raised more than $9.6 million.
The Houston Food Bank {HFB}
The Houston Food Bank has been recognized as the largest in the U.S., feeding over 800,000 individuals each year. HFB also incorporates year-round programs such as Backpack Buddy, Food for Change, Senior Box, and Kids’ Cafe. It doesn’t just stop at meals and educational events. The food bank’s Teachers Aid program provides school supplies for teachers in low-income schools while the nutrition education department holds classes that revolve around healthy guidelines, budgeting, learning how to read labels, and most end with a cooking demo.
How It Works
Every year, Houston Restaurant Weeks releases its participant list. It is an ongoing edited list so be sure to check before making a reservation and verify with the restaurant that they are still participating. The participating restaurants will have a set menu you can choose from, generally 2 to 4 courses depending on when you go { $20 brunch / $20 lunch / $34-$45 dinner per person}. Each participating restaurant will donate a set amount of your meal to HFB {usually $3 to $7}. This translates to providing 9 to 21 meals each time you participate in Houston Restaurant Weeks!So take this chance to try new restaurants or revisit your favorites.
