Houston Moms "Friday Favorites:: A Weekly Glance at Our Favorite Things" #houstonmoms #houstonmomsblog #momsaroundhouston

It’s October, moms! I love what October brings:: cooler weather, pumpkin patches, the Texas Renaissance Festival and scary movies. This is truly one of my FAVORITE months, so I thought I would share a few things that are bringing me joy right now.

TV Show:: The Boys {Amazon Prime}

Never meet your heroes.

I grew up a comic book nerd {MARVEL, not D.C.}, so this show is right up my alley. It is a take on what our world would be like with modern day superheroes in it…. except they are no heroes. It is hilarious and gory and over-the-top, and I love it so much! If you have a membership to Amazon Prime, you can stream this for free. It is in Season 2. Caution:: It is not for the faint of heart or someone sensitive to swear words.

Home Product:: BYourBed Comforter

There is a reason this comforter is called the “coma inducer.” I was in the market for new bedding, and I saw this mentioned by a YouTube mom I follow. One month later and I am in love! It is thicker and heavier than a coverlet, but not quite so bulky as a regular comforter or duvet. My husband and I have never slept better! Bonus points:: you can wash it at home, and the whole set (comforter + 2 shams) cost <$100!

Personal Indulgence:: Maria Victoria Bag

I found this fabulous bag with Maria Victoria through the virtual spring Nutcracker Market. It is the perfect pool/beach bag! It is large, colorful and fun, and the best thing is it is made from plastic so it can get wet. I can fit everything my family needs in here! Unfortunately for all of us Houston moms the fall Nutcracker Market will be virtual as well, but this vendor and beaucoup others will be participating again so you can check them out online come November 11. Snag you a bag for next summer!

Good for my Mental Health:: Instagram

I think we can all agree on one thing:: this has really been such a crummy year. From the pandemic to the social unrest in our country to the horrible tragedies that have occurred, it has just been one thing after another. I have never been an anxious person, but in the spring I started having a lot of anxiety. It took a while for me to recognize it and realize some things that were prompting it. One of those was Facebook. I always enjoyed looking at pictures of my friends’ kids, or seeing funny memes, but I started to encounter so much negativity every day scrolling my feed. I decided to delete the app off my phone and my tablet, and only check my messages or alerts from groups I am in. But I missed some of the social aspect of it, so I turned instead to Instagram. I purposely filled my Instagram feed with pretty, peaceful accounts full of flowers, animals, food, sunshine and overall positivity. Getting away from negative social media has probably been the best thing I have done all year!

Good for my Soul:: Gardening

So I have turned into a crazy gardening lady. I knew I always wanted to build some raised beds and grow our own food, and I took advantage when we moved into a new house last summer and finally had the space. In the past 12 months we have grown rosemary, carrots, lettuce, garlic, limes, peppers, tomatoes, strawberries, zucchini, and bush beans, and shortly will be planting broccoli and our fall/winter vegetables all over again. I have added so much more landscaping and types of flowers, and we love seeing the bees and butterflies come visit our garden. My 3 year old especially enjoys helping me out. There is something magical about seeing something grow, something that started as a seed and then becomes a decoration on your table or part of your dinner meal. Being outside in the sun and warmth and working the earth is truly food for your soul!
