Friday Favorites:: The Not So Fancy, Extremely Random, Geriatric Edition

Houston Moms "Friday Favorites:: A Weekly Glance at Our Favorite Things" #houstonmoms #houstonmomsblog #momsaroundhoustonWhen I decided to do a Friday Favorites post, I had the most glamorous visions in my head. Me to me:: I have stuff I really really really like. And I too can write about my favorites and impress the masses as my fellow contributors do with my knowledge of… fancy things.

Me to you:: I thought I was like them. Until I had to make a list of my favorites. And that’s when it all fell apart. But alas, I trudged ahead. Fair warning, my list reads like fodder for the old and/or weird … but it’s for real – so here we go.

For Comfort and Coverage

Let me introduce you to the Sunbeam Renue XL Heat Wrap. This sucker is the finest in heating pad haute couture and function. Unlike your standard heating pad, the Renue XL is super soft, shaped like a giant uppercase letter W and weighted to conform to your body. It lays ever so perfectly around all of your body’s curved surfaces and I use it almost every night. Betwixt my always cold feet and my frequently achy spasm-ous back – the Renue has earned its rightful place as a permanent occupant of my bed.

For Feeling Smooth and Smelling Fragrant

Elle Vie for the win. Typical me grabs a bottle of Nivea when I am at Target. But the near fancy me is ordering products from Elle Vie. Goal Getter is my favorite of the scents and the Shea Body Oil and Body Butter have found their way into my daily rotation. The one ounce minis are perfect for my purse and with all the required extra handwashing and sanitizing – they are quite handy. Because like the bag says, I’m too cute to be ashy.

For Knowing All the Whens

We all need a little help as we age, so I ordered this for the ol’ lady… my 96 year old grandmother. Happily placed it in her room and then found myself low key jealous of her clock. I might have relocated it to another room – perhaps to the one I reside – but we heard her on the phone bragging about the clock. So I let her make it. And I ordered one for myself. Can’t lie. I love it. It makes rolling over to check the time in the middle of the night an incredibly easy experience. Geriatric time telling tools weren’t the décor I was going for in my bedroom – but here I am.

For Staying on the Grid

My solar charger. It seems so entirely extra, but it is now on my list of essentials. Camping. Waterpark. Vacation. Hurricane. Youth sports tournaments. Any time I might be away from an electrical outlet for an extended period of time – I pull this baby out. It holds enough juice that I have never found myself on empty and I have always been comfortable sharing the electric love with others. It is a little weighty, but I find comfort in knowing I have a pound of power in my possession. It’s the Enneagram 6 in me.

For Flipping and Flopping

Yellow Box flippies. I Love. Love. Love these. They are the softest, squishiest absolutely most perfect flip flop I have ever owned. Check those Amazon ratings; all the Yellow Box flippies are pushing five stars. I have three pairs and have no plans to ever not have a pair of these in my closet. And in 2020, they were promoted to work shoes. We are forever bonded.

Joi Bailey Green
Joi was born and raised in San Antonio. After a brief pit stop at the University of Texas in Austin, Joi moved to Houston in 1994 and began checking boxes off her never ending to do list. During this time and in no particular order, Joi taught a little bit of everything between first and eighth grades, got married and then divorced, completed grad school, birthed a few babies – Ferris {November 1997}, Warren {December 1999} and Laylah {March 2006}, moved an old lady into her home – Granny {January 1925} started working in Human Resources, served an excessive amount of time (on boards, in booster clubs, team momming) as a crazy sports momma, and learned a lot of life lessons. Joi is known for her unabashed honesty, always present sense of humor and her #TeamTooMuch style of doing everything. On most days, you can find her caught up in her love/hate relationship with politics, feeding her Facebook addiction, or counting the number of days until her last child graduates from high school.
