Go Griddy :: Adulting Made Easy

While this post is in partnership with Griddy, at Houston Moms Blog we are committed to bring the biggest and best to our readers. All opinions expressed are solely our own.

Owning a home always seemed like the pinnacle of “adulting” to me, and when our family took the plunge 5 years ago and took on a mortgage, we had a lot to be excited about. Finally a place of our very own. However, the one thing that I absolutely dreaded about home ownership was paying the electric bill. When I was a child, my dad would yell at us every month for the high bills he had to pay, but he had no strategy to keep them under control. I was determined to do things differently and find the best rate so I wouldn’t be caught off guard like my dad was. That’s when Griddy came into our lives!

Griddy is a membership service that for a low monthly fee, supplies electricity to your home at the wholesale cost without any markups or additional fees. They are revolutionizing the energy industry in the same way that Netflix transformed the entertainment industry.

At first, I was skeptical. Griddy seemed too good to be true. But the more I learned and actually used the service, I realized how revolutionary this concept really is. Griddy has earned a customer for life for several reasons::

Price Point ::

For $9.99 a month, we get access to the wholesale price of energy. And as an unexpected bonus, in my area, the price per kilowatt actually goes down in the summer! I don’t have to worry about us being home for three scorching months with the A/C set at 71 degrees and getting a high bill. We have 2 kids under 5, and raising these little people is expensive! There’s food, clothes, preschool tuition, dance classes…and we use LOTS of electricity. We need all the help we can get.

No Contracts :: Pay-As-You-Go

Griddy’s convenient “pay-as-you-go” approach helps me see your usage and exactly where you money is going- no more worrying or wondering if I’m just throwing my money away. Those fixed rates from other companies had me paying up to 30% more depending upon the month. And when my “special rate” expired, forget about it! It was back to the super expensive bill and fighting with the company to lower it back to the fixed rate. Between gyms, day cares, and camps, I have enough contracts to worry about. This is one less…AMEN.

No Hidden Fees ::

There are more than 2,000 energy plans in Texas to choose from. Big companies often rope us in and confuse us with their pricing structure, and we end up paying more. Griddy is upfront with their prices with no hidden costs or fees. As mentioned above, there’s also no contract, so if I find a better deal I can cancel right away. And I am IN LOVE with their convenient app that has helped me learn how to conserve energy and see how much energy we use. Their customer service has answered {wayyy too many} of my questions and I love knowing they are there for me if I need them.

About 2 months into my relationship with Griddy, I got a call from my old energy company saying they wanted us back. Playing along {and out of sheer curiosity}, I gave the customer service representative my Griddy rate and asked if she could match it. She looked at their website and admitted there was no way she could match. I thanked her anyway, hung up, and felt a sense of triumph and confidence in my “adulting” skills. Dad would be proud.

  1. Hi Jennifer,
    I have been onboard with Griddy for about a month now. As I’m writing this, it’s about four in the afternoon. We are experiencing an energy price hike – 3.66 per kilowatt hour! With Griddy, your ultimate cost depends on when you are using the energy. It really makes you pay attention. The verdict is still out whether or not I will continue with them.
