Have Fun With Your Friends at Home with a Houseparty!

I miss my people, y’all. I regret turning down all of those social invitations that happened pre-quarantine. I miss my friends, the moms from the preschool class, and my bunco group. I even miss Estella, the lady at Chick-fil-A that helps me set up the table in between ordering the food and when it arrives. But, most importantly, I miss my mom and sister. My sister lived with us for two months and I miss her! Video conferencing hang outs and group chats were not cutting it, so my sister recommended we all download the Houseparty app. It is so much fun! The first time we logged on we played a charades game and horribly drew mushrooms and dogs for about two hours.

3-5 times a week I close my door, forget about the homeschooling drama and my fighting kids, and connect with my people again. Houseparty is a face to face social network that connects you to the people you care about. Video chats can only be initiated by those you are connected with. All Houseparty accounts are safe and you can lock a room to keep it private and secure.

Houseparty was created to be the most human way to be together when you are not together, which is perfect for this quarantine time. It has experienced explosive growth during these last few months because people are yearning for ways to connect with their friends and family. It’s a great way to have virtual hang outs, dance parties, virtual birthday celebrations, and more. Moms are even having their book club meetings and Bunco nights on Houseparty

Some of the games you can play are::

  • Heads Up- Try and get your friends to guess the clue on their card without saying the phrase!
  • Trivia- Quiz your friends and family on all kinds of trivia subjects, like general knowledge, pop culture, sports, 2 truths and 1 lie, and more! The timer goes fast, so pay attention.
  • Chips and Guac- A cooler version of Apples to Apples or Cards Against Humanity. Every round you have a judge and players. The players pick a card from their deck to match the card drawn. Be careful and remember who you are picking for! For example, tonight the card drawn was Magnificent and I picked {and won!} with the card “Manicures.” I knew my mom would pick mine because we all desperately need manicures.
  • Quick Draw- This is a fun drawing game. You are given a stack of clues and you have to draw the clue well enough to get your friends to guess what the clue is.

Another cool thing about Houseparty is their “Record Facemail” feature. Are your friends not available to play right now? Send them a video message, encouraging them to play with you when they are ready.

There’s nothing that will compete with in person hang outs and parties, but in this tough time, Houseparty is a great way to connect and play with your family and friends.

I also appreciate the motivational sayings and trivia facts that displays as you open up your app. Right now, my screen says, “The world is say there’s only one of you.” I also now know that “The rumbling sound your stomach makes when hungry is called borborygmus” and that “Taylor Swift’s favorite cereal is Cinnamon Toast Crunch.” It is the best cereal, after all, but it’s cool to read these facts and uplifting sayings.

Download the app, invite your friends, and thank me later.
