High Fives and Hugs :: Houston Moms Rock

Last month I found myself struggling to keep up with the pace of motherhood and seeking refreshment and means to move on. Music is such a part of that process for me. As corny as it may be, “Carry On” by Fun. often sits at the top of my personal faves playlist, and probably one too many Texas drivers have witnessed me belting out these lyrics while bolstering my mom heart on a solo car ride:

‘Cause we are
We are shining stars
We are invincible
We are who we are
On our darkest day
When we’re miles away
So we’ll come, we will find our way home.

I received such encouragement after my initial post, and I knew that I wasn’t alone in my journey.   I feel so drawn to these particular lyrics because I want to share them. I want to sing them with other moms. I want to join hands or perhaps a flash mob and confess just how amazing we are, good days and bad, struggles and successes, wins and losses.

So that’s what today is, Friends, a way to “sing” together as we pass around virtual high fives and hugs for giving our best to this journey called motherhood.  I’m fairly certain I sat with the biggest grin on my face as y’all sent in pictures.  Even looking at them as I type this post I feel incredibly honored to be called “mom” alongside you guys.

Our snuggles heal broken hearts; we coordinate outfits with the best of them! We take care of ourselves {bed rest and dairy-free diets included!} to take care of our littles.  Cold temperatures don’t stand a chance against our desire to go, do, and see, with our children, and we learn early and then daily just how much their smiles create our smiles.  We wear them; we clothe them; we dedicate our days to them. Heck, sometimes we even let them drive us to Austin when they’ve kept us up all night.  Ok, so maybe not that, but we know that secret healing power of a sense of humor.

I hope this post leaves you singing, dancing, high-fiving yourself, and hugging the necks of the moms in your life. We at Houston Moms Blog challenge you to spread some love by sharing this post on Facebook and tagging the women who make you feel proud to be mothering alongside them.  You never know whose smile you just might brighten!
