A Houston Mom’s Guide to August

Walk thru any Houston store and you will notice the summer toys and bathing suit racks being replaced with bright school supplies!  That’s right – it’s August folks!  That bittersweet time of year when we say goodbye to summer and hello to back-to-school season.   Don’t worry, it will still feel like summer for quite some time and there is still plenty of fun to be had before the school bell rings!  If your summer days are starting to drag there are many great events going on this month and ways to pass the long {hot} days.  You can even get creative with a staycation in our own beautiful city or some new playdate ideas!

August is also a great time to get organized, dust off that planner and look for ways to reset after a long summer!  I love to start fresh with my meal planning, workouts and overall health of myself and my family as we enter a new school year.  What perfect timing to be partnering with HealthCorps this month as they are putting the finishing touches on a fabulous Wellness Day here in Houston at the United Way on September 18th with a slew of local wellness experts!

HealthCorps is a national organization, founded by Dr. Mehmet Oz and his wife Lisa, dedicated to strengthening communities and making them more resilient through the most innovative approaches to health and wellness. To date, HealthCorps has impacted close to 3 million youth across the country. Now, they want to inspire a healthier YOU! Join HealthCorps for a full day of wellness so you can re-charge, re-center, AND inspire others to live well {YES PLEASE}!

On September 18, they will bring together the best of the Houston wellness community for workshops, breakout sessions, panel discussions, and a chance to experience the amazing local services & products in the area. Delphine Remy, an international healthy chef and holistic nutrition and eating psychology coach, will deliver an exciting keynote before sessions that teach you how to simplify wellness. Special guests, FitFoodieLe and The Blonde Pantry will also be there to join in on the conversation. All participants will receive lunch and a gift bag and will have the chance to win exclusive prizes.  The event will take place at the United Way, and tickets can be purchased here.
