Making Fitness Fit :: peerFit’s Houston PASSPORT {Sponsored Post + Giveaway}

I’m super excited to kick off Houston Moms Blog’s Fitness Friday series and introduce you guys to an awesome new partner!

Now that the holidays are over, and I’ve had my fair share of turkey and pie  – it’s time for me to get serious about getting this postpartum body back to a healthy status.  I don’t make New Year’s resolutions.  Nope.  I fail at those.  Miserably.  So this is not just another goal for the new year.  This is about getting myself back into shape so that I can keep up and play with my kids.  This is about me being as healthy as possible in hopes of living as long as I possibly can on this earth to see my kids and {God-willing} grandkids grow.   So for me this is much more than a number on the scale or the size of pants I’m wearing.  It’s a lifestyle change and a lifestyle commitment.  Pluuussss, I’m nursing right now so this is a perfect time for me to commit to losing my baby weight and get back to a healthy BMI since nursing is a natural calorie burner.

I used to despise gyms.  Gyms made me nervous, and I didn’t like waiting for others to get off the cardio machines before I could get on.  My husband almost killed me when I had a treadmill delivered to our front porch back in 2007.  He thought I would never use it.  Turns out I used it almost every day up until I got pregnant with my first child {he turns three TOMORROWsigh}.  I have a new treadmill now because I put too many miles on my other one, but sadly it collects dust most of the time.  It’s just hard to find time to break away from the kids and get on my treadmill.  It’s either nap time or abandon my husband with the kids while I exercise which usually ends with repetitive knocking from a certain almost three year old on my bedroom door.

So I resolve that I need to be open for more fitness options outside of the house.  In comes peerFit and the Houston PASSPORT program.   This local program launched just days ago on January 1st, and I can’t even explain how excited I am to try this out.

Fitness Friday

Here’s the gist of it.  Houstonians can purchase a peerFit passport that allows them to schedule and attend three different gyms and fitness centers around the city.  You don’t have to pay money and commit to just one gym. You get to try them out and decide if it’s right for you and your fitness needs.  Additionally, the three different fitness centers are very unique to Houston – these aren’t your cookie cutter, wait-in-line-for-the-cardio-machine type of gyms {nothing wrong with that, but it’s just not what motivates me}.  I’ve already tried ROW Studios, which is one of the three gyms, and I LOVED it.   I can’t wait to check the others out.

peerFit was founded in 2011 with the goal of giving every single person in the world better access to group fitness classes.  peerFit encourages people to discover fitness classes, recommends classes to others, and sends reminders so that they don’t miss a class.  Additionally, users can purchase classes anywhere in the country.  When people want to find a new place to eat they go to UrbanSpoon or OpenTable.  When people want to find information about a fitness class they use peerFit.  This allows them to find the class that is right for them.  Group fitness is a highly social activity, and peerFit is leading the movement to make it easier and more fun. They’re making fitness fit here in Houston.

Here is a little about each of the fitness centers/gyms available with peerFit’s Houston PASSPORT ::

Row

Bowie

Big-Yoga

They couldn’t be more different, right!?  Definitely all very unique and offer different workout routines and plans for the people of Houston.  I love, love, love that we can now take advantage of all three through peerFit.   Single passports are $59 BUT partner packs {which include TWO passports – one for you, one for a friend} are just $79.  I LOVE the idea of a partner pack – working out is way more fun with a friend.  Plus, the partner pack looks like a steal to me, especially if you split the cost with your partner!

All that said, I’m signing off now to go schedule my classes with my own personal fitness concierge {how fancy does that sound?} that’s included with each peerFit PASSPORT purchase! I’ll report back to you guys at the end of the month.  But in the meantime, be sure to enter to win your very own partner pack below.  Maybe I’ll see the lucky winner at a class soon!

Happy and Healthy 2014!

    • I KNOW, Danielle, child care would be amazing! I’m just getting started with Big Yoga but it looks like they have classes as late as 10 pm some nights. I plan to try to attempt bedtime then head off to yoga.
