The beauty of our present time is that we have the power to explore various cultures through life experience, rich texts options, and of course, the internet. As we continue celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, I want to share my perspective on the beauty of a culture so vast and rich—and how you can participate in celebrating our Latino brothers and sisters.
Life Experience
A very practical way to celebrate cultures is to hear the stories of the people around you. We have all been captivated by the many stories that have emerged from the Humans of New York blog. Why not create your own blog and interview the family and friends around you that have immigrated to the United States from a Spanish speaking country? Here’s mine::
After immigrating to the United States, my dear friend Cintia worked to overcome the barriers that go along with second language acquisition. She soared through schools and graduated with honors, despite the issues that arise when coming to a new country. After graduating, she chose to be a teacher because of the many teachers who helped her share her voice. Her family worked hard to help her through college and after teaching for over a decade, she has now become the first Latina principal at the school she began interning at a few years ago. She is my hero because she knows the struggle and overcame it with such elegance.

The Hispanic culture is rich and spans many countries, experiences and dialects. Thanks to the ‘new normal,’ we are able to experience this through the virtual tours of many museums across our country.
