Taking Control of My Skin Care Before the Big 4-0

While this post is generously sponsored by Butterfly Medspa & Wellness, all of my opinions are proudly my own.

I have always struggled to feel confident about my skin. Throughout my adolescent years, I suffered from mild acne; enough to be annoying and at times embarrassing. And as I’ve gotten older, I still have the occasional hormonal breakout and the wrinkles are starting to emerge.

So as I quickly approach 40, I knew taking charge of my skin care was an important goal of mine.

Getting Serious About Skin Care

My skin care routine prior to 35 was nothing too involved {face wash, topical acne treatment, moisturizer}. Now that I’m getting older, I have two main goals including working to ward off the occasional breakouts and keep my skin as wrinkle-free as possible. A girl can dream, right?

Thanks to some wonderful Instagram education and back-up support from the experts, I started using the holy trinity of skin care:: vitamin C serum, retinol and sunscreen.

I have definitely seen improvements in my skin since adding these steps, but knew I wanted more. Enter Butterfly MedSpa & Wellness. During my first appointment, I met with one of their estheticians for a consultation prior to my treatment. Because I do not get regular facial treatments she advised I start small with a HydraFacial and start to work my way up to more involved treatments.

Seasonally, now is the time for deeper skin care treatments, like peels and microneedling. It’s important to limit sun exposure after these treatments and that can be hard to do in the summer.

HydraFacials use a patented machine that easily dislodges and removes impurities while delivering hydrating skin solutions. Boosters can help calm, smooth and refine, hydrate, brighten and more. It’s a great way to cleanse, extract, and hydrate all in one facial. The best part? I was able to go about my day with no visible side effects like redness, or peeling. Taking Control of My Skin Care Before the Big 4-0We also talked A LOT about skin care. Beyond what is required for her license, her passion and knowledge for her line of work was so refreshing. Knowledge and expertise is SO important when it comes to skin care, and it was clear that their staff are highly-trained and have extensive professional development opportunities.

I was able to give her a list of problem areas and she walked me through some suggestions for what I needed to be doing at home. She also reminded me that like working out, my home routine was equally as important, if not more so, than what she can do to help me in the spa.

Visible Results

The HydraFacial was nothing short of amazing {my skin still feels softer than it’s ever been, almost a week later!} and the dirty water that was left in the machine was both oddly satisfying and slightly embarrassing. I left with a dewy glow to my skin, and the desire to add regular facials to my schedule.

Taking Control of My Skin Care Before the Big 4-0The Butterfly MedSpa & Wellness facility is absolutely gorgeous. Services range from facials to chemical peels, body sculpting, injectables/fillers, laser hair removal, surgical procedures, and more.
