Tomball can be found by going north up 249, off of the Grand Parkway Toll Road. Fun Fact:: Tomball was named after a 1907 local congressman, Thomas Ball. Tomball has experienced a lot of growth over the years and has become a sought-after suburban city for families. The City of Tomball website illuminates that :: “From history and nature, to fun-filled festivals, live music, sports, unique shopping and award winning mom-and-pop restaurants, Tomball is at the center of it all.”

Moms love Tomball because of the small town feel so close to the big city. It is a short commute to your downtown Houston destination or the workplaces in The Woodlands or the energy corridor. The City of Tomball has great family friendly activities and events. The City of Tomball has created a Facebook Page dedicated to fun family events in the area. Whether you are kayaking and canoeing along Spring Creek or Cypress Creek, playing disc golf and paintball, checking out the annual Christmas Candlelight Tour at Tomball’s Museum Center, or being haunted in a downtown “Ghost Tour”, you know you are home!

At HMB, we love family-friendly activities. If it’s hot outside {because, it’s HOUSTON}, we recommend these indoor play places and these awesome splash pads! We also love taking care of ourselves. We have compiled a list of mommy-favorite fitness classes around town that can help you with self care.
- Houston Public Libraries boast quite a few family friendly activities. Find your closest location here. Your kids will love the library and all of its FREE fun things to do. A few of us may even want to move into it! A lot of neighborhoods even boast Free Little Libraries that can help your kid keep their love of reading alive.
- Tomball Depot is a great place to check out train memorabilia, original art works, antiques, and a model railroad. Join in on their fun, fitness, and friendship events hosted regularly.
- Kleb Woods Nature Preserve is over 133 acres of picnic and camping grounds amidst natural wetlands and forest. The trails provides great fitness for all ages and the nature center helps peak your adventurer’s spirit!
- Tomball Museum Center- Explore the history of Tomball throughout the year at the Museum Center. There are TONS of events that kids of all ages would love!
- George Mitchell Nature Preserve- Hiking and biking! Kayaking and canoeing! There is no limit to the outdoor adventures that await you.
Childcare and Schools
We know finding great child care and schools is a daunting task. There are hundreds of great day care options in this area, but finding the right one for your family takes work. Tomball is served by the aptly named Tomball ISD. There are also a few private schools in Tomball:: Concordia Lutheran High School (9-12), St. Anne Catholic School (PK-8), Salem Lutheran School, Rosehill Christian School (K-12), Covenant Academy, St. Edwards Catholic School, Trinity Lutheran School, Cypress Christian Academy (K-12), Northland Christian School, and Great Oak School (PK-8). There are also many charter schools across Houston, like YES Prep and Harmony Schools. Lone Star College also has a Tomball branch.
