Via Colori Chalk Art Festival in Houston is Back!

As winter turns to spring in Houston, my family and I are ready to get out and enjoy all that the city has to offer. One of the activities we plan to hit up is Via Colori Houston. After a three-year break, this beloved outdoor street chalk art festival is back!

Via Colori Houston is a free, family-friendly event that takes place on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday April 3. The festival showcases chalk artists of all ages and abilities. This is where the community gets to celebrate creativity and the spontaneous act of creating chalk art together!

Our family is mainly into sports, music, and theater. Sometimes I feel like I need to expose my kids to more art. So, I drag them to the art museums now and again. However, an afternoon at Via Colori will be a completely different kind of experience. We’ll get to watch chalk art take shape right in front of our eyes!

My younger ones still doodle on the driveway with sidewalk chalk. As a result, I bet they’ll love seeing this in action on a whole other level. We’ll get to watch artists create all kinds of chalk art right on the street. These colorful pictures include realistic depictions, cute cartoons, and everything in between.

Visit Via Colori at POST HTX

The lively event will be held at POST HTX in downtown Houston, a unique indoor/outdoor venue. This newly renovated space was once the site of the former Barbara Jordan Post Office. It now boasts modern architecture and a cool rooftop garden.

I read about this new space located near the theater district downtown but have yet to see it for myself. However, Via Colori will give me an excuse to check it out! I’ve also heard great things about the food and beverage vendors there. While you’re at the festival, you might want to try some of their local and global cuisine. Also, if you’re looking for vegan and vegetarian selections, they’ll have those too.

Most of all, I’m excited to walk around this new cultural campus to find artists creating masterpieces around every corner. The kids will even have a chance to draw their own chalk art square while they’re there! The children’s area, Via Bambini, will feature activities to encourage creativity and connection. In addition, there’s going to be a Kids Zone to help inspire young artists.

Meanwhile, we can admire youth artists, professionals, and amateurs while they create their own chalk art masterpieces. Some of the work may be inspired by the Institute of Spirituality and Health, this year’s chosen charity.

Visit Via Colori and Support The Institute for Spirituality and Health

Each year Via Colori chooses a charity to benefit. This year they are bringing attention to the work of The Institute for Spirituality and Health at the Texas Medical Center. The Institute’s mission is to promote well-being by exploring the relationship between health and spirituality. They offer programs, education, and research designed to help the medical community, as well as the public, understand this important connection.
