Home Date Night Ideas :: Recipes, Netflix and More

It’s 8 p.m. Do you know where your children are? I do because they have been stuck inside the house with me for what feels like 4,365 days. So, with that being said, they are in bed. It may be the last thing on your mind to have a date night at home with your spouse since you’ve been stuck inside with them for what also feels like, FOREVER.

I get it. But, this is our foreseeable future until who knows when and there’s no getting around it. I’ve put together some at home date night ideas in case you’re not sick of your spouse by now and are interested in having a little fun.

Mixed Drink Recipes

The first one I’m sharing was introduced to me by my sister-in-law Amy. It’s such a refreshing, light drink, and perfect for this time of year leading into summer.

Chilton

-1.5 oz of vodka
-Topo Chico/Perrier {or any sparkling water of your choice.}
-lemon juice

Margaritas

My buddy Hunter makes a mean margarita and his recipe is worth trying. I’ve got 4 different versions depending on your preference.

Regular Margarita

-2 oz Silver Tequila
-Juice from two limes
-1 oz Orange Liqueur {Grand Marnier or Triple Sec}
-1/2 oz Orange Juice
-1 or 2 teaspoons Agave Syrup depending on your level of sweetness

Skinny Margarita
*same ingredients from regular. Leave out Agave Syrup and OJ and replace with 1 packet of Stevia mixed in 1 oz of warm water.

Jalapeño Margarita
*same ingredients from regular. Leave out OJ.
-Add 1/2 oz jalapeno juice from a jar.

Pineapple Margarita
*same ingredients from regular. Leave out OJ.
-Add 1 oz pineapple juice.

Shake ingredients over ice and serve in a chilled martini glass. If you want a salted rim, mix salt and lime zest.

Snacks

Next, I have a few snack ideas to enjoy that don’t require a ton of time or ingredients.

Cake Batter Popcorn

I got this recipe from my friend Rian. Who doesn’t love a good sweet and savory snack?

My daughter had fun helping me make this recipe and we’ve been eating on it for days. It’s so good and complemented a few evenings of movie/Netflix watching in front of the TV.

-12 cups lightly salted popcorn
-16 oz white chocolate {I use white bark coating}
-1/2 cup funfetti cake mix
-sprinkles for decorating

Directions:

Place popcorn in a large bowl. Melt the white chocolate according to packaging. Stir the cake mix in with the melted chocolate. Pour over the popcorn and combine until it is fully coated. Spread the popcorn on wax paper and then let your kids add the sprinkles. That’s it! Store in a air tight gallon size zip lock bag for 2-3 days.

Fiesta Dip

This recipe has been in my family for a long time and basically screams “family get together”.

-16 oz sour cream {I use light}
-Packet of fiesta ranch seasoning
-4.5 oz can of diced green chiles
-3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese {add more for personal preference}

Mix it all together and serve with your favorite tortilla chips.

Netflix Recommendations

There are so many good ones to choose from, so I’m recommending a few of my favorites. See Ashley KB’s post for even more quarantine binges.

1.) Stranger Things – The series takes place in the 1980s in a fictional town in Indiana. This science-fiction, drama-horror series takes you on a journey that will leave you at the edge of your seat and wanting more. The series ensemble cast are nothing short of amazing and the paranormal and supernatural events that take place during the 3 seasons are depicted through captivating cinematography. This particular genre is usually not my favorite, but it’s so good. So if you’re like me, don’t let it deter you. I can’t wait for season 4.

2.) Mindhunter – A non-fiction series based on a 1995 crime book written by a retired FBI agent. The series takes place in the 1980s and revolves around FBI agents who operate the Behavioral Science Unit within the training division at Quantico. The two agents Ford and Tench travel the United States to interview imprisoned serial killers to help them better understand how they think from a psychological perspective in hopes that they can apply it to their future work in order to solve cases.

3.) Ozark – We’ve recently been blessed with the release of season 3. I’m a sucker for any kind of crime/drama related series. This series is about a married couple who are forced to relocate to the Ozarks in order to launder money for a Mexican drug cartel. It depicts some of the seedier parts of life. It’s a little strange for me because I’m from Missouri and I’ve been vacationing to the Ozarks every summer for the last 10 years. I promise, the Ozarks is actually a nice place to visit.

Other Home Date Night Activities

Lastly, some other fun ideas to make at home date night successful is adding in some games and music to the mix. My husband and I love playing games so we’ve been playing Yahtzee, Catch Phrase, card games, etc.

Instagram is a great resource for “live” concerts. We connect my phone to our bluetooth speaker and sit outside on our patio. It’s also a great way to monetarily support artists who are currently making a living this way. A particular favorite is @michaelleathermanmusic. We saw him in Nashville last fall. He sings a mixture of genres, but mainly country. He’s super talented and his voice is amazing!

I hope these ideas help the quarantine days go better for you. Stay home, stay healthy and have fun with your spouse.

Katie A
Katie is a born and raised Midwesterner. She graduated from college at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in December of 2008. After college she decided to take a leap of faith and moved to Houston in April of 2009. A month later she met her husband David at her apartment complex swimming pool, and I guess you could say the rest is history. She now resides in Katy, TX with her husband David and their two children Avery {December 2014} and Myles {April 2017}, and will be welcoming another little boy this fall. Before kids, Katie had a career working in Commercial Real Estate, but once her daughter was born she figured out quickly that being a stay-at-home mom was something that she was destined to do. Her passions include in no particular order :: drinking coffee, collecting jewelry, fashion, fitness, cooking, politics, and crime/detective related Netflix series. In her free time you can catch her spending time with family and friends, drinking a glass of red wine, watching sports with her husband, trying out the latest hot spot restaurant, traveling, laughing, and not taking life too seriously.
