Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens offers a range of child-friendly happenings in the gardens, mansion and Lora Jean Kilroy Visitor Center. During the week of spring break, they will be offering special activities to spark imagination and guide your young botanists. Get ready for the tactile play zone, nature rubbings, interactive play, and a historical game zone where pioneers can handle cookware, toys, writing instruments, and more.

Blessington Farms

Escape the bustle of the city and enjoy fun on the farm! U-pick strawberries will undoubtedly provide old-fashioned and unrivaled memories. But that’s not all! Blessington offers hay rides, pedal cars, barrel trains, giant slides, Sand Mountain, and more. No farm is complete without animals, of course. You’ll encounter goats, chickens, and even camels! Fishing is free with admission (bring your own tackle and bait), but camel and bird feedings are extra. Before you make the trip, check their website for weather and berry updates.

Children’s Museum of Houston

The fun starts from the minute you reach the front door at the Children’s Museum of Houston, where you’ll be greeted by jugglers to welcome your expedition! With interactive performances daily (the lineup changes every day) as well as bungee trampolines, boardwalk inspired games, and human hamster balls… this is truly a weeklong celebration! Don’t forget to swing by on Pi Day (3.14) for a huge Shaving Cream Pi(e) Fight! Enjoy all events, all day for only $15 per person.

George Ranch Historical Park

Looking for a way to engage the whole fam during the break? We have just the place! Introducing the Golden Age of the Cattle Drive at George Ranch Historical Park, where you’ll saddle up your pony for some old-fashioned western fun during Spring Break. Follow along as the GRHP cowboys wrangle, wrestle, and blaze a trail through history! Chuckwagon Cooking or Leather Demonstrations will be offered from 11 am to 2 pm daily (check the event schedule for the dates). Grab your boots and get goin’, y’all!

Houston Zoo

The Houston Zoo is a great spot for a “naturally wild” experience. Create a scavenger hunt or print out an animal B-I-N-G-O game (free printable available here) to keep your wild animals engaged and not simply running from spot to spot. There are also cool extras like the wildlife carousel or feeding the giraffes! (Please feed responsibly and do not give them your leftovers.) However, the zoo is a popular spot for mamas and kiddos and subsequently gets crowded—quickly. Pack your water and patience.

Moody Gardens

Virtually everyone in the Houston area is aware that Moody Gardens is synonymous with their trifecta of pyramids: Aquarium, Rainforest, and Discovery. But, did you know there is also a five-tier ropes course? Hailed as the tallest steel ropes course on the Gulf Coast, Sky Trail challenges agility, balance, and strength—oh, and there’s also a roundtrip zip line. While you’re there, take a ride on the colonel paddleboat, experience the action in the 3D theater, or take it up another notch at the 4D special FX theater. Have a FINtastic spring break at Moody Gardens with new exhibits (Sharks in Depth and Dinos Alive!) opening on March 11th. Significant discounts are offered on Wednesdays and kids three and under are always free for all attractions!

Thrill seekers need apply! Take the Pirate’s Plunge, swing over the crowd in the Gulf Glider, or spin out on the Galaxy Wheel. You’ll also be able to load up on carnival favorites {perhaps after riding Cyclone} like funnel cakes, turkey legs, and hot dogs. Pleasure Pier will be offering a special spring break pass for $79.99, which will include unlimited admission on rides at the Pier, Kemah Boardwalk, and the Downtown Aquarium! (Score!)

Enjoy some roller skating fun at downtown Houston’s only outdoor roller rink! Tickets are $12 per person plus tax and include the cost of skate rental. Don’t miss out on this unique experience which will close up shop for the season on March 17, 2023.

Splashway Campground’s annual Spring Break Bash is back and it is JAM PACKED with lots of family fun! Head out to Sheridan, Texas, for a week under the stars with all the traditional camping activities. We’re talking fishing, s’mores nights, movies under the stars, a St. Patty’s Day bake-off and even a petting zoo! Cabins are available to rent for $299/night and cottages are going for $229.

The Museum of Fine Arts Houston

Explore your inner artist at The Museum of Fine Arts Houston (MFAH). Littles will have the opportunity to both explore the art on view and create their own masterpieces! Gallery activities, coloring sheets, colored pencils, and knowledgeable educators will be on hand to spark discovery about art-making! This event is included with general admission, which is free for everyone on Thursday. Ages 12 and under always receive free general admission!

Lone Star Flight Museum

This is one packed flight plan. Kick things off on March 11th with Helicopter Day, where you’ll celebrate the history and design of choppers with free flight simulators! In addition to the museum’s standard exhibits and aircraft collections, pilots-in-training will also learn how to do a pre-flight check, view an indoor plane show, test their drone pilot skills, and even work on a B-25 aircraft jack! All activities and workshops are free with general admission.

Houston Museum of Natural Science

Snakes, spiders, and sharks, oh my! The Science Museum is so much fun for kids. They love the dinosaur exhibit, the Planetarium, and the awesome special exhibits that rotate through the museum. Make sure you check out the Energy exhibit floor and the Cockrell Butterfly Center while keeping your eye out for interactive games and quizzes!

Rosenberg Railroad Museum

Every Thomas the Train fan’s dream. Modeled after the original Union Depot, the museum is filled with artifacts and photographs which will transport you back in time. Look through buttons, badges, lamps, brochures and timetables, and then head over to Education Station for more interactive play. Children can climb on “Wawa’s Train” and watch the engines roll by. Special planned Fun Day themes during the week of Spring Break include Water Fun, Code Break and Luck o’ The Irish! These events are included with admission.

Space Center Houston

Up for an out-of-this-world experience? Get an up-close look at incredible artifacts in the Starship Gallery, hold an actual moon rock, browse Astronaut Gallery, and even go inside shuttle replicas at Independence Plaza {all included with general admission}. And while you’re there, enjoy their exhibits! The “early bird” philosophy is a good one to adopt at this stop. This Spring Break, check out their Moon 2 Mars Festival, happening March 11-19. Ever wanted to learn how to make a wet-felted bracelet or a jute basket? Well, here’s your chance! Drop by HCCC during the week of Spring Break for some hands-on art making! Teaching artists and volunteers will provide step-by-step instruction for families and visitors ages three and up. HCCC Spring Break is free and open to the public all week for this event (while supplies last)!

Alley Play Makers is designed for dramatists grades kinder through 8th. Spring Break camp explores big ideas and questions connected to award-winning children’s books through three class rotations: acting/storytelling, movement, and makerspace. Alley Play Makers culminates in a joyous, celebratory performance that demonstrates our campers’ learning for parents and friends.

WebsiteMilton Berle once said, “Laughter is an instant vacation!”. In this case, Spring Break Vacation! So let’s go on the Comedy Club Circuit! For this camp, we will not forget to work on the basics of Drama Kids: Public Speaking, Creativity, Body Control, Focus & Concentration, Teamwork & Leadership, Social Skills. In our Make ‘Em Laugh camp, we’ll also explore many kinds of stage comedy: Jokes, Physical, Spoofs, Sketches & Routines. On our last day, the full day campers will present a Comedy-Club style performance for family & friends, with mics & club style seating! Half day campers will perform for their fellow campers on their last day. Enroll your family comedians & let them get their guffaws all lined up! But be warned – it will never be the same at home after this camp!

Cost is $219 for a full week of either mornings or afternoons or $49 for a single day.

The Health Museum

Spring into science at The Health Museum by joining us for a week-long camp while school is out! Through hands-on learning and experimentation, campers will take part in health-themed STEM interactive experiences and explore all that The Health Museum has to offer.

Cost is $300 for museum members and $325 for non-members. Before and after care is also available.

Houston Arboretum & Nature Center

Unearth the mysteries of the green machines that once ruled planet Earth! From ferns that were munched on by dinosaurs and carnivorous plants that bite back to plants that have shaped modern medicine, these incredible organisms are at the root of this weeklong camp. Experiments, outdoor games, and habitat explorations will leaf you with a new appreciation for plants.

Cost is $190 member/$240 non member for half day and $295 member/$370 non member for full day.

Ice at the Galleria

Kiddos bouncing off the walls? Take them to Altitude where there are wall-to-wall trampolines engineered for maximum energy depletion. But this is no ordinary bounce-a-thon. Engage in a game of dodgeball, shoot some hoops, battle it out on the beams, balance on the trapeze, climb the rockwall, or immerse yourself in a VR experience. Check out Friday Night Friendzy from 7-10 pm. It’s 3 full hours of jump time for just $18!

Buffalo Bayou

An outdoor adventure in the heart of the city, Buffalo Bayou offers a range of recreational pursuits for all nature devotees. Rent a canoe or kayak and paddle down the bayou, glide down the 30-foot slide, and enjoy downtown views while you picnic, play Frisbee, or fly a kite. You can even climb aboard the Spirit of the Bayou pontoon boat for a bat tour, history tour, or private charter. Bring Fido along and engage of a game of fetch at Johnny Steele {off-leash} Dog Park.

Most known for encouraging hands-on exploration, Midtown Park offers everything from art walls to water playscapes. Their unique playground features a climbing sphere, sound tubes, misters, swings, and interactive pipe sections. Splash around in the water feature while attempting to catch intermittent bursts of water. There are also social game areas {bocce or washers}, gardens, a pavilion, and an off-leash dog park.
